Howdy!
The Memorial Student Center is unique in its dual role as both a memorial and a student center. While the MSC and its many historical artifacts honor the Aggies who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country and our freedom, the true tribute to those brave Aggies lies in our students--the living memorial.
With the MSC Renovation and Expansion project beginning in August, this year will bring with it many changes. With those changes, however, come incredible opportunities. While the MSC is closed, it will be up to the students of Texas A&M University to be the spirit of the MSC and to embody all that it stands for. It is our task to educate the newest members of our Aggie family in the traditions and history that make our student center so unique. Over the next 3 years, the MSC will live on within each of us, so we must accept the challenge to be the living tradition of the Memorial Student Center until it welcomes students once again in 2012.
The 59th MSC Officer Team has taught us well and prepared us for what lies ahead. They have laid the foundation for a smooth transition and a successful relocation to our new spaces around campus. The officers of the 60th MSC have committed themselves to continue to lead the MSC on its path towards excellence, ensuring that we remain the premier avenue for campus-wide programming and student development. As we continue to meet the needs of our growing campus community it is also imperative that we strengthen our identity and embrace our shared MSC culture, remembering the core values that unite us as members of the MSC:
While some may see the coming year as an obstacle, we have chosen to see it as an opportunity: an opportunity to initiate positive change, an opportunity to develop innovative programs, an opportunity to reach new audiences and build new relationships, and an opportunity to show Texas A&M that the MSC lives in our students and our programs--not in the bricks and mortar that make the walls.
I encourage you to explore our website and learn more about what the Memorial Student Center has to offer. While our building may be temporarily closed, the people and the programs are even more vibrant than ever! Whether you are looking for entertainment, a cultural experience, a leadership opportunity, community service, or a way to connect with fellow Aggies, you will find it here at your Memorial Student Center!
